Let’s Make A Deal!

win-pictures-lets-make-a-deal

There are several things The Comeback Girl won’t scrimp on: toilet paper, coffee, tea and underwear. But everything else is totally game. I’m fascinated now with deals. Its almost like I’m obsessed. I bought three samsung bluetooth headsets at woot for practically $3.00 with the $20 manufacture rebate for each device.

And of course I check out slickdeals almost everyday too. They’re both really cool sites and concepts.

So today on let’s share Thursday. What are the best deals you’ve ever gotten? Where do you shop for crazy reduced prices?

I usually find the most awesome deals at Old Navy…. I have great come ups on things for $1.99 and $2.99!

Hey y’all…… I most definitely agree with you on the toilet paper. I DON’T do cheap toilet paper. When I had the shindig at my place one of my friends was like what kind of cheap toilet paper is in this bathroom. She was like it’s not the same as the toilet paper that was in your bathroom…. I said AWWW NAAAWWW get that mess out of there and throw it away. That was the bathroom my friend was using when she stayed with me so that was her toilet paper. I was like I will not have people thinking I use cheap toilet paper.. That’s a no!!!!!!!!

I usually just watch stuff. It will go on sale eventually. If it goes on sale and isn’t in my size, that means I probably didn’t need it. Ha.

I have yet to really get into online shopping. I don’t know why. I always feel like I need to try something on prior to buying. Hel.l. my mama shops online more than I do.

Well the internet is obviously the best place for a deal, cuz most of the time youre getting freebees. I grabbed Windows 7 for zero dollars earlier this week. Slickdeals is cool, I dont know why people sleep on eBay, its a goldmine if youre willing to take a little time to look. And of course whoever is hustling in your area, like I told yall I grabbed a laptop at the shake joint not too long ago.

    @V…That’s the same way I am… Will watch something in a minute…

But for the most part I find deals everywhere….I’ll buy clothes and shoes out of season and put them up for next year….

I’ll see something I want and then I may try to find it online for cheaper…. I’ll buy something then watch it and when it gets cheaper I’ll buy it again and then take it back with the old receipt….

Yeah I work the heck out of the system. Or at least I try to…..

This still cracks me up. My only question is was it “hot”? Lol

I hear people all the time get great deals on eBay. ALL THE TIME! I still have never bought anything from there.

I think I don’t shop online, because I feel like I could become addicted.

Years ago I worked at Target. And there was this slow older man that used to spit when he talked that told me “One should never skimp on paper products. You may think you’re saving money but you’re not. You use more of the cheap paper and have to buy more of it”..

    Bless his slow ♥.

@ NoNo..OKAY so share where ???? see why do black people do this…they like to tell you the deals but they don’t want nobody else to know where they got it from.

See karmically I’ll share any and everything i know..because it always comes back. I also agree about ebay. If i had a ton of time i would work stuff back from craigslist and ebay to make a bomb a!ss business. If you can find the right product..there is a gold mine for people who aint got time digging for deals.

Nope. Usually the obligation takes care of itself thru money. I get a hookup, I look out for you either by giving you a few dollars on the side or keeping my eyes open for a hookup you might have interest in. If you’re giving me favors cuz you wanna screw then you’re being counterproductive, cuz if you’re cute I’d probably do you for free.

Its actually worse to get hookups from women as a man than it is vice versa, cuz as a woman you know if youre moderately attractive a guy is gonna want to get in good with you and he wont really keep it a secret, so you kinda already know where its at. Women will do things for you and make it it seem like its just off the strength of being cool, then when you dont reciprocate their feelings its like “well I did such and such for you, blah blah”

    Hey, y’all!

@Comeback: Good post. While there are items I won’t buy in generics, I love deals. I can be addicted to online shopping & ordering from TV…entirely TOO easy & convenient.

    Places I look for deals:
    - Woot.com
    - Ebay.com
    - WinnIt.com (reverse Ebay…the lowest, unique bidder wins)
    - CraigsList.com
    - Half Price Books (journals & stationary for good prices)
    - Overstock.com

I am thinking of hosting a program called “Financial Peace University” Its the money class I went through in 2008. I want to do it at this local black owned coffee shop in detroit. The total cost to use the facilities and pay for materials is 2,500 for the full 13 weeks.

I would like to know if there is a way I can contact local business to donate to the cause or any type of grants or something I could do to raise this money.

Although right now I am lacking seriously. Until earlier this year I had a part time job at a big box electronics store. Right now I REALLY REALLY miss that job. I got my PS3, next-gen dvd players, and other stuff on GREAT deals. After having that I find it SOOO hard to pay retail.

I think you should reverse engineer it.

1)..I had a guy mentor who used to always say that there is something very wrong and psychological with “free” seminars. There should be **some** skin in the game by attendee’s so that they feel more invested in their success. So, I would charge a fee (this may offset some of your expenses.

1a)..so how many people are you inviting? how many people can the coffee shop hold?

2). Sponsorship is a good idea. Think of it as a way for businesses to get in front of your market. So for whatever sponsorship level will they have access to your email list (of invited guests). Will they be able to make some presentation in exchange for sponsorship. Make it a huge win win..Email list access translates to money money money.

3). You will definitely have to put together some type of kit to show sponsors what they are getting for their money. If you’ve got some time I would go to some top tier places too, car dealerships, resume writing companies (thinking of Larissa on my FB who I referred to Humble the other day.

4). You should also be encouraging your attendees to actually buy the coffee..which really falls inline with wealth creation and supporting small business. So if you provide the coffee shop with a certain amount of revenue from your event..can they reduce the fee?

    5) You need to get your A@#@#$#@ back on facebook/twitter. If you’ve got time ..you need to be building a LIST!!!! Starting a blog. Maybe even hosting small events that lead up to your big event from meetup.com

those are my ideas..just off the top.

I think your idea is excellent by the way..

OH yeah..one more thing. Maybe you could also video tape the session. Turn it into a webinar, for people who may can’t attend or don’t live in detroit. I actually would be interested..but i aint flying back and forth to Detroit for 13 dayum weeks..i love the D..but not like that.

    think a little bigger.

Thank you comeback you rock soooooo hard!!!!!!

I feel you on #1 100% I was telling my mom about it today and she was like she doesn’t think people should be responsible for paying for the facility which I can agree to a certain extent but it is supporting our local businesses when they do help pay.

the program kit itself is already $100 which i expect attendees to pay for beyond that im pretty much clueless…. and I am back on facebook and I can get on twitter!!!

the $2500 covers the rental of the facility for the 13 weeks and my materials, I came up with this grand Idea like 3 hours ago. I just thought why does it have to be at a church??

“the program kit itself is already $100 which i expect attendees to pay for beyond that im pretty much clueless…. and I am back on facebook and I can get on twitter!!!”

I’m not understanding all the way then. So the attendees WILL pay $100?

It doesn’t have to be at a church. A large church may be able to give you a little bit more support and allow you to make a Sunday presentation, which already gives you access to people that you may not have right now.

Having it at a black owned coffee place is a great idea that provides exposure to that establishment. Is there gonna be a section on credit? and wealth creation?

You’ve been thinking about this for a while tho..at least a form of it..i remmeber back in the day you had a similiar idea. I think when things come to you like this..its your calling. Like seriously. Don’t ignore it.

But still think bigger. Whatever venue you have. You need to offer the opportunity to view online. If you know someone whose decent with a video camera and powerpoint..you could stream your presentations.

yes there is a section on credit but not wealth creation which I would assume would deal with starting your own business?? idk….. .

they WILL pay $100 for the cost of the material aka (kit) unless i can skate around it some type of way be condensing the stuff. This is the road block I kept running into at my own church because pastor says no one can AFFORD to pay for this.

the kit comes with a workbook, 13 audio cd’s incase you miss a class or want to listen again, it comes with a wallet type of book to track every penny you spend as well as envelops to put money in, and a dave ramsey book, couple other lil nic nacks inside.

I think I could stream it through FB or some other online video source.

So im like well maybe i can just take it some place else and the coffee shop came to mind but beyond that thought my mind draws a blank….

comeback the space rental is $75 an hour and my videos would run me about 350 ish but it comes with all the advertisement stuff for me to market. but I added it all up and it came out to 2500 just to host it without spending my own monies.

  58. thecomebackgirl
    November 12, 2009 | 12:52 pm

“This is the road block I kept running into at my own church because pastor says no one can AFFORD to pay for this.”

…Find another church or pastor if you go that route. It is whatever you say it is-and pastor should know that. Words are too powerful for his scarcity thinking. $100 divided by 13 weeks is 8 DOLLARS…if a person can’t invest 8 dollars into their future. Then they have bigger problems than your course can solve.

You could condense the course. You could also turn parts of it into an audio.mp3 piece-make the 13 cd’s into mp3s. And if each of those downloads-course booklets aren’t worth 8 bucks a week..something is wrong.

its called skin in the game. If everything is given for free..how seriously are you going to take it for 13 weeks. Hel! week four my A.D.D would be at the mall somewhere chillin. If I’ve invested MONEY and TIME. Im there.

“Only other idea would be to use a cheaper or “Free” venue to host it but then i wouldn’t be supporting the black owned business like I had hoped to…….”

Start at the beginning. Host a free conference call with some type of computer hookup so people can see what you are presenting. Go over what will be offered week by week. And so 100 dollars won’t be such a sticker shock maybe break the investment into 4 or 5 parts. Again $20 bucks is what some people spend on dinner LOL..

i would just mark the price off the list. If you make it an issue..it will be one.

  64. thecomebackgirl
    November 12, 2009 | 1:00 pm

actually its 7.69 a week. again i wouldn’t get bogged down into the price. Cause if you make it too cheap people will question the material.

Holly I dunno I have to ask him. Comeback thats a good idea. I have a presentation cd and the cd does quit well with getting people excited. After I was in the class for a few months, i went a spoke a short 5 minutes about my experience after they had watched the video and EVERY single person signed up.

I just dont have a venue OR the cost of the materials for me to present which i think is 350ish.

What are your DIRECT and ACTUAL costs of this course minus the venue.

comeback the only bill there is for me personally is the cost of the cd’s

when a co-ordinator host the event it comes with all the course cds (videos) work books advertisement materials and a bunch of other stuff. let me see if i can find the link for you

its a 400 kit but once its paid for thats it, i can have it for life and use it for free as many times as i host the classes.

so after the first go round the only cost is the facility and the $100 each (or couple) participate pays for there OWN kit. And thats also a one time deal. once you go through you can come as many times as you want for free after that, and you also get access to the online materials and forums.

I personally dont want to come out of pocket for the cost of the coordinator kit. which is typically why people use the church to do it but im not having any luck with the churches around here wanting to spend any money period.

i hate to say this but the church is part of your financial model problem..forget about them for now..they aren’t seeing your vision.

You still need an audience. Start the meetup groups and meet somewhere every week or every other week for a mixer. Invite successful people in the community. Build momentum. And a list. And you honestly won’t have a problem covering the cost of what your’re trying to do.

Maybe the coffee shop works on the second round. Maybe the first round you have meetings in your living room. You have to build an audience.

“I need a mailing list, how do i advertise?? ”

this is the downside from not having a webinar.where you could open it up outside of detroit propper…you, why why, nono and Hummy are the only people i really know of in the D now.

If you are planning your meeting a month or two out..join meetup dot com and plan free little get togethers every other week. Find somebody/s who is well connected in Detroit with a big twitter/facebook list..friend all their friends. Some should friend you back..start talking about money, making saving, growing..

    at meetup..grow your email list.

    start buzzing about your event.

    post cute fliers.

Comeback I forgot too they advertise the meet up locations on the dave ramsey website

when you punch in your zip code it tells you every place the class is hosted.

I feel like i may be having to eat the cost of the material if i REALLY want to do this.

    I am sooooo late! :(

I LOOOOOOOOOVE deals… LoL! Except for a few items like TPand underwear, I seriously never pay full price for anything… especially not clothes! Lol! I am registered on the websites of all my favorite clothing stores so I keep getting coupons… plus I know the approximate cycle before something goes on clearance(Express = 6 weeks, The Limited =8 weeks etc…)…

Right now, I am already excited about Black Friday. I am registered on http://www.Black-Friday.net so they send me an alert whenever a major releases a coupon. My sister and I are already planning our divide and conquer plan. Lol!

Bluefly and Shop it To me are also great sites for good discounts.

How is everybody doing? even though I know everybody’s already gone
