Dearest Personal Trainer, A Diva Is Not Female Version Of A Hustler

The Comeback Girl (in Zella-Nordstrom Jacket and Target shorts)

Dearest Personal Trainer,

I’m sorry I had to fire you. Well, in essence we sort of fired each other. I was afraid that if I broke my contract that you would try to sue me. But two days ago, you let me off the hook. Previously, I had been working with you once a week at the gym in Diva’s Bootcamp and eight weeks later you decided to leave to start your own personal training company, Diva’s Inc.(*) I’ve modified the name of your company because I don’t want my disparaging remarks to come up in a prospective client web search mainly because these relationships are like any other and what works for some may not work for others. And mostly because I’m not a “hater”. As a woman, I want you to succeed.

But I just think you missed ALOT and too bad it was at the expense of growing your company. You started with 3 clients and in less than a month and a half you had 20. I applauded you. I wondered though if you went through every client’s refrigerator without asking-when they didn’t complete the food chart. Or if you went up their stairs and adjusted their thermostat because you were too cold. If you bought other trainers into your client’s home, without asking if it was even O.K. Or if you rang the doorbell like you were four over and over and over. I wonder if Shakespeare was wrong about: “”What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” Bullshi!t, cause what if that rose’s name was Diva?

In many ways the lack of boundaries that was exhibited by you was my fault. You took a ton of liberties and I let you.  And as I told you that Sunday, those were the issues that were apart of my fatter self.

And things just started to click. Like me NEVER wanting to be a “Diva”. That was always your source of motivation if I found parts of the workout hard or if I wanted to take a break. Your reply: “Don’t you want to be a Diva?”, “Don’t you want to be Diva of the month?”. No I Don’t. And I think that bothered you. I’m not sure what’s up with young black women who want to name their company iterations of the word Diva. Women who think the word is the epitome of ideal and sexy are seriously missing a few screws. The word isn’t appealing to me. It’s for Beyonce entertainment purposes ONLY. I always told you that I wanted to be a runner. Not a Diva. I had no problems with you pushing me, that’s what a trainer is supposed to do, but using being a “Diva” as a source of inspiration, wasn’t working for me.

One thing is for sure, you did get me into a routine. I’m at the gym six days a week. And I never knew the kind of high I get after really being in the zone and jogging for 15 minutes straight without stopping, or on the elliptical at 6mph for 40 minutes. It’s a rush that I never knew really existed. And for that I’d like to thank you.

I don’t have any hard feelings against you. I just think that I’m a different person than I was a few months ago. I also realize that that trainers are effective. But there has to be a certain chemistry there. Or maybe trainers are supposed to be a little more tolerant, patient and cognizant of personal boundaries.

Maybe my next trainer will be a man.

    LOL Mikki…

CBG you look wonderful girl keep up the good work.

I’m trying to get there, but I understand I am going to have to go back on this darn bc pills.

Antyways, she was out her damned mind and more importantly out of her place. IRWAMFPT would come up in here doing any thing without my permission. Speaking of though, I need to get one that can help me out because I think I have bad form and might be doing too much cardio..(one hour (well 1000 calories) of max resistance and incline on the arc trainer)…then not enough weights and I cannot figure out wtf to do for my eating habits…

And I don’t wanna be a diva either-just healthy! But I might try bootcamp

We were talking about dreams yesterday and wouldn’t cha know last night I had one!!

I dreamed my cat and my old roommates was back at my apt!! I remember one of them knocking on my door like come get your cat and i woke up in a panic 1. my roommates are suppose to be gone for life, and 2. so is my cat lol

I understand the cat part because yesterday I was in the apartments complex office and they was asking me did I remember that I am not suppose to have any pets, and I was like I told yall she is gone so whats the issue?

but my roommates being there again?? that part I don’t get or maybe it was just all about my cat and the story line needed them to help carry out the point…

    idk

    Good Morning!!!

    CBG you look great!

I hate the D word and I hate that Beyonce has chicks out here proclaiming to be Divas when they’re not. It’s one of those words were at first it was somewhat cool. Until it wasn’t.

@ Mik – Between you and 80’s I can’t take these prizes. Im about to go get some beanie babies and give them out as prizes in the Chi.

Thank you all for the compliments…I’m tryna keep motivated now that I won’t have her anymore.

She did alot of strength training stuff that Im just not good at. But if I heard the word DIVA one more time..i was gonna choke her.

@ Mik..thanks Mikkidoodle…part of the other problem too is that she is really young…i wrote about that before. And I’m a playful person but I’m not 19. And I think she kind of thought we were buddies.

“but I understand I am going to have to go back on this darn bc pills. ”

@ Jac..thanks…why??? I never really gained alot of weight when I was on the pill. But thats like my last option right now..(for alot of reasons LOL)..but anywhooo why the pill? too many hormones and shyt in that thing.

“Speaking of though, I need to get one that can help me out because I think I have bad form”

me too. Until I find someone else, I’m going to lay off the weights and just do pushups, abs and cardio. 1000 calories???? Are you drinking enough water?? 8-10 glasses. I’m shooting for a gallon a day. I think that was apart of my problem (and still is really). I retain ALOT OF WATER. they only way to get rid of it is to drink it.

re: food. Portion control. Portion control. Portion control.

    “yay!!!! what DO I WIN???”

@ Mik…I got some lactaid milk over here. You want that? I notice a lot of black folks are lactose. I went to the grocery store last night (in my VERY black neighborhood)…and the lactaid was almost sold out..but the regular whole milk was packed up to the top of the freezer.

    Morning, y’all.

@cbg: You look really good! Your workouts are paying off…very motivational for me. Keep up the good work!

The word “diva” should go away for a very long time. I know that everything recirculates like every 20 years or so but that’s fine. I’d be okay with that word disappearing for about 20 years or so…along with “swag/swagger”. :-)

“Beyonce has chicks out here proclaiming to be Divas when they’re not”

@ Vroom..thanks. I just don’t think its a word that belongs in a 20 something, 30 something lexicon. I mean to me a diva is a performer who really has earned the right to make unreasonable demands (TO PERFORM): Bette Midler, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Liberace…

like its not some 12 year old random personal trainer…

I am faithfully walking 3 miles a day. speed walking. I don’t run very well. I’d love to be in a 10 by my birthday, but we will see how this works.

My newbie came to church on Sunday so we could have our “date”. He was supposed to be there the pastor spoke directly too him,it was crazy. But he wants to go back which is a plus in my book.

@ Sunny…No really that was my point. I think what I was trying to get at is my trainer WAS a diva. and I think when you’re tryna get into a routine and a work out and here comes somebody whose body is on point…so you;re like OK!!!! let me do this. But I always knew that I didn’t want to be a diva…but i think some of us decide that tryna have a bangin azz body maybe can entitle some to act like a fool.

Like Jackson wrote..to me the goal is to look cute in your jeans..but also BE HEALTHY. And for me on top of that i want stamina..I want that rush i get when I’m done.

that aint got nothing to do with being no dayum diva.

I don’t know what the differences are between them and Baptist. Do yaw?

We live in a black area..and she has ALOT of older women black women buying this stuff..like late 40s, 50s…maybe when you hit mid life..you do want the trappings of diva?? I think me another client are/were actually her youngest..but some of these ladies are sopping it up. Making her breakfast so they can be diva of the month at the diva cookout..LOL..

please note: she’s really having a diva cookout. I wanted to write about it..but it just sounded so absurd I knew no one would believe me LOL..

The COGIC believes the Bible to be the inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of God. COGIC doctrine is trinitarian, stressing repentance, regeneration, justification and sanctification. The church teaches that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is given to all Christian believers who ask for it. Holiness of life and practice are emphasized. The ordinances of the church are water baptism by immersion, the Lord’s Supper and foot washing (the ordinance of humility). The church believes in divine healing, however, it does not advocate the exclusion of medical supervision

anybody care to break this down cuz i don’t get it lol

    Thanks Holliberry…

I wondered about this..I always thought a female trainer would be more YaYa sisterhood and supportive. But I notice at the gym men the men trainers keep a healthy “distance”..like there not all in your business, asking you when you’re gonna have kids (yes she asked me)…in the middle of your set and shyt. If the trainer would have catered their regiment to your needs, things would have worked out better.

People can’t use a cookie cutter way of doing things–it’s not going to work with everybody.

Your motivation wasn’t becoming a diva, so she should have found what out from you what your motivation was—and used that to motivate you to that next physical level.

For anyone providing personal service: Cater to your client’s needs instead of assuming everyone is alike.

Good morning everyone. I am sick again which makes like 3 times in 6 weeks, so I’ll be at the doctor this afternoon.

Nicki & Mik Church of Christ is not the same as COGIC. I was a member of the COC from birth till I left for school. LOL @ “they dont play”. That statement is true in some ways but I dont think its that serious. I would say that applies when it comes to actual worship, but not all Churchs of Christ do things exactly the same across the board when it comes to worship ceremonies and what not.

That statement is true in some ways but I dont think its that serious. Good afternoon, Trehouse

CBG you look great and sometimes things don’t work out with trainers so keep it moving. The trainer failed on being professional with you and the others.

“I know this is off-topic but I have question for everyone. I am thinking about starting grad school in January if I don’t have a job by then. Is it really important to go to a “designer” school for grad school?

@Humble-I think you need to start with what you want your MBA concentration to be if you go that route? Granted, designer schools can get you in teh door very quickly but it also depends on you too. There are some state schools with some bomb-a– programs because I know that UofM has a great business school and my home state Uni. of South Carolina has a top-ranked MBA/International MBA program.

I would advise you to look at some school rankings a la Business Week/USA News World report then look at their placement rankings. Definitely start asap and go ahead and get your paperwork ready if you are applying for student loans because the earlier you apply the better it is for you to get money.

@Mik…I will pray that you will get to keep the net on the work computer

I think the number of blacks who collect is smaller than the ones who just hoard because we are afraid to throw anything away since many generations ago we had nothing.

Yaw (wkcite Nicki), the funniest stuff happened to me today. Anyways, my Inspection sticker is expired, and I haven’t had time to do it yet.
Knowing that my week-ends are usually busy, I need to do it during the week. I asked one of my guy friends to do it for me today (my car has been having some problems with the engine and a guy would better know the prices).
I picked him up and he had to drop me back at work. Why were the two usually very nice security guards side-eyeing me? Lol! Then I remembered that the fiance developped a very nice rapport with them when he was down here, calling them by their first names n shyt…

Them boys were probably thinking “look at this triflin’ batch, coming up through here with another man”. I almost wanted to tell them: “Hey that’s my friend!!!! Stop looking at me sideways.” Lol!

I had to tell the fiance that he did a very good job at picking his spies… The whole episode was hilarious!
