Kung Fu with David Carradine
“I Remember” (to the tune of Joe Brainard)
I remember when Kung Fu (the reruns) came on right after Soul Train from 1982-1985. When people die, those in which you loved to watch when you were growing up, you’re reminded to be grateful for everyday because tomorrow is not promised.
gratitude?

I don’t remember the show that he was on, but my mama was telling me about it.
I’m grateful for:
1. yesterday: The day was filled with laughter, self reflection, and advice from the Treehouse. Thanks Guys… I ended the day with a great power walk with Mama.
2. 2. today: I’m up, my stomach is better (I woke up God awful nauseous) and it’s beautiful, cool and sunny.
3. tomorrow. The last wedding is tomorrow which means my headaches will be OVER. lol
I remember this show my granny watched it religiously! With the passing of David Carradine it immediately made me think of my granny and the times we had together. As some of you know it has been exactly 2 years since her passing. For me it is still pretty difficult to deal. She was the matriarch of our family and definitely very instrumental in my life. I am grateful to have the time I did with her and was filled with the knowledge & wisdom she had to give.
@ Nick- what was wrong darling?
I used to watch Kung Fu as a kid so it is sad that he died especially from suicide.
I’m grateful that I have friends that look out for me.
I’m grateful just to be alive and healthy.
@Nicki-are you wearing a kool-aid dress this weekend or something that you canactually wear again. When I hit 35 I decided that no more kool-aid bridesmaid dresses for me, my closet looked like a paint factory exploded!!!
@Hol: I was nauseous and there was like a sharp pain and slight burning in my stomach. I’m hoping it’s just the acid reflux flaring up. This morning, I was a lil tardy to the pardy at work because I just wanted to lay on the floor until it passed. lol.
@B: Girl, this one is peach… or sunset coral (as the tag says. lol). The kool aid red one has passed aw-ready.
Honey chile, I know what you mean. I think I’m out of weddings all together. Too much stress and money. I’d rather just sit in the audience.
I am grateful for braveness and chocolate cake!
hey yall!
I’m grateful for another day as always. I’m grateful that my days are filled with laugher no matter how my day is going. And I’m grateful to have the ability to not sweat the small stuff and appreciate the little things.
@ Nicki – (I woke up God awful nauseous) .
Perhaps it’s morning sickness my little grasshopper? ::Palin wink::
are we having a tease Nic about being preggers day?
if so im IN!!!
@Yaw all:
Are going to hell for the preggars things?
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that it is NOT. lol

Mik: U TOOK THE FIRST STEP??????
I’m just grateful for my lack of fear concerning most things in life. It gets you somewhere. Fear, on the other hand, immobilizes.
Grateful for good friends, too. Always.
I am thankful for the Saturday mornings I had as child watching wrestling and kung fu without a care in the world thanks to parents who sacrificed so that I could enjoy my youth.
I am thankful for my bomb azz organic garden that has produced the best arugula and baby spinach salads I’ve had in my entire life.
I am thankful that I missed the end-of-day exchange on here yesterday that kept me from crossing the line with Lovely and her “riding” partner. LOL
I am thankful that my flight made it safely over the Atlantic though on the same day the Air France flight from Brazil wasn’t as fortunate. You just never know.
Morning all!
I’m grateful I’m finally (cross my fingers) going to get to spend some time with my niece, grateful for the reources all around me and the ability to enjoy them.
TGIF!
Hey y’all…..
I’m grateful for waking up another day….. And I’m appreciative of the talk I had with my grandmother last night….I finally got a chance to catch her up on what all we did last weekend.. And she was just like I’m so happy that you’re able to do things like this… I never got a chance to and still wouldn’t be able to….. By my age I believe she was married with 4 of her 5 kids..
I’m also grateful for my kinfolks….Cause they love me
I’m also grateful for the treehouse.. Y’all all know y’all like my playcousins… And that says a lot from because I don’t do the adding of family members… LOL
Oh and Nick is preggers!!!! Again??? Girl you just had lil Humble…. LMAO
I’m just grateful for my lack of fear concerning most things in life. It gets you somewhere. Fear, on the other hand, immobilizes.
AMEN AND MURRY CHRISTMAS!
Nic I did dahlin but i didn’t do it in hopes of getting a new bf or nothing I just did it with attempts to get a new friend.
I been reading this dating book and its got some “Task” that im suppose to do and the first one is to keep a log of new men i encounter.
its suppose to shed light on my non existent dating life. But it explains how to go about dating not to find a husband but to find out about your likes and dislikes and just having fun and getting to know people in general.
so im gonna be asking a lot of new guys I meet on dates n stuff!!!! this weekend my 2520 invited me to the tigers game so hopefully i can get out of my comfort zone and meet folks, get numbers n stuff, no matter race, job status, etc… as long as they are single lol.
my co-worker happens to be the first easiest target lol, since fear of rejection is no longer an issue its shouldn’t be hard to go out and get these dates!
im going to be blogging about it starting today!!
@Mik-Ya goin to hell for your comment about Nicki’s future kids…….lol
@Nicki-is you dress from David’s Bridal because it sounds like the last one I wore..
@ Shawnta’ – Aren’t you in Columbus?? They have a ton of festivals. I want to go to Comp fest and the Rib fest. I should find out when they are.
@ Mik – if its a boy, name him Jr if its a girl name her palin .
hahahaha
“Oh and Nick is preggers!!!! Again??? Girl you just had lil Humble…. LMAO”
Heyall naw 80s. I can handle Humble’s virtual baby, but no on the real life one.
@Mik: Well go’on head baby girl. I admire your bravery and strength for doing it! Do a fun activity with him.. do u have any amusement parks or Dave and Buster type places?
Nic its just funny that i sent that email and he isnt even at work lol.
my new jam is “one night stand” jazmine sullivan
ooooh i heart this song, especially the part about pancakes in the morning!
Nic we have like mini golf, and gocarts
Hey I wanted to share from my friend who posted this on Facebook……
A prayer delayed is not a prayer denied.
Don’t let your current circumstance contradict your dreams.
I don’t know about the treehouse but I needed to hear that this morning.
@B: It sure is a David’s Bridal dress!
@mik: “Nic we have like mini golf, and gocarts”
And that will work. I haven’t heard that Jazzy song, I don’t think
I am thankful that my flight made it safely over the Atlantic though on the same day the Air France flight from Brazil wasn’t as fortunate. You just never know. .
This is scary. How does a plane just go down like that?? In the middle of the ocean!!!!
“A prayer delayed is not a prayer denied.
Don’t let your current circumstance contradict your dreams.
I don’t know about the treehouse but I needed to hear that this morning.”
Amen!!!! U know I do.
@ 80’s I’m also grateful for the treehouse.. Y’all all know y’all like my playcousins… .

i wanna be like u when i grow up!
@ B-baby (can I call you that??) – That’s a great message!
@V- Thanks girl. You can definitely call me B-Baby:) I need messages like that because since I graduated in May 08 it has been like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic while waiting on the lifeboat!
@Mik-that is great that you are getting out of your comfort zone, girl just have fun!!!
@Nicki-Why do I think that we wore the same dress.?..i had a corset since I was the maid of honor but it was coral colored organza material, very light and filmy with a sheen to it.
Nic the song goes like this
you are my kryptonite you take my powers
away and if i spend the night, you’ll probably drive me insane
the song is basically about how she was always the type to date men for a minute and keep it moving until she met this guy that changed her feelings and she fell in love with him
and she be like instead of him making me pancakes in the morning it was me making HIM pancakes lol.
I just love her lil analogies about stuff.
“@Nicki-Why do I think that we wore the same dress.?..i had a corset since I was the maid of honor but it was coral colored organza material, very light and filmy with a sheen to it

@Tatica: U, my dear, have mastered the art of bullshatting. lol. (
@ Tatica – I do it all the time. I just smile and nod and make little comments. Then I walk away and think to myself, “who the he.l.l. are you”.
“Mik: I think I wrote to u that she was a talented song writer and that I love foolish heart”

@Mik: Just a dumb wedding.

Yeah, it’ll be a website to sell the jewelry she’s been making; hopefully we can it get up and running in the next week or so.
I don’t have any real plans. But I really want to see Star Trek. I say this every weekend but Im just horrible at the movies. If I go after 7pm, I go to sleep. It never fails.
I want to go to a park and swing/read/have a picnic and eat mangoes.
@ T ohhhh jewelry. You’ll have to give us the link. I love jewelry. It can change a whole outfit.
I was suppose to be getting a “virtual store” up and running. Yeah it hasn’t gotten done yet. That’s probably what I need to be doing this weekend, but I probably won’t.
@Tatica: Please keep us posted on the site!
“I want to go to a park and swing/read/have a picnic and eat mangoes”

She’s been making necklaces and bracelets and some earrings as well. Mostly beaded jewelry, and she’s going to take a course in metals soon. She has this one necklace (they have names and this one is Fantasy) that is just so Hollywood starlet, I love it.
I told her she should pick one to send to some TV host and see if they wear it on air (I suggested Robin Roberts on GMA
[whispers to Tatica]… Please talk to V. Renee because she’s been slipping on starting her virtual store. [end whisper] .

But I really don’t like it anymore. the pace isn’t fast enough for me. I cannot stand you. All hair is nice Akua, if it’s healthy… so I know u’ve got it good too!!!!!
I always wanted natural curly though (like my lil cousin in the wedding pics.) She has tight coiled curly hair and we were talking while I was doing it (and yes, she is 7. LOL) and she said she hated her hair and liked it when I straightened it.

I was slack in grad school so it didn’t grow the way it should have but when I did take the 6 pilss everyday for a month I literally had to get two relaxer touch ups in 30 days and my girl had to comb the relaxer through my hair it was so thick.

@Akua/Mik $70?? Let me go to the website and check it out. I got mine a few years ago and I was on the monthly plan for $39.95.
LMAO. U gotta babysit them for life.
@Nick……Long as they don’t try to call me Da’Aunt…. We cool…. LOL
“@Nick……Long as they don’t try to call me Da’Aunt…. We cool…. LOL”
LMAO. And I’ll pay u child support. lol. Girl, J would murder me.
@AKua, Nicki, Mik-I never tried the shampoo so I would just get the $49.99 supplement set and try it out. You have to take 6 pills a day but not at the same time. It’s two types of pills but my Step One pills disintergrated but my Step Two is still cool so I take them on occasion.
@b: Ok cool how long dey last…I couldn’t remember to take a dam* birth control pill..I wonder how Im a remember to take these suckas 6 times a day!! lol
What is going on?? What have I missed?
I need a new tat…any suggestions?
@B: Disinentegrated??? U have cracked me up.
Thanks chica!
@Hol: B give us super fast hair grow tips.
Good blog to check out:
http://stickwithyocat.blogspot.com/
@akua: what about something small- having to do with your writing?
@sunny: I was gonna get poetry on the inside of my right wrist. I have a trinity sign on the inside of my left wrist. Or maybe the word SCRIBE..cause that’s what I am..
Im addicted to ink..is there a rehab for that?
“Im addicted to ink..is there a rehab for that?”
I think u just end up running out of space. Have u noticed lil wayne doesn’t have a clear spot left?
@sunny: I’d only do that if If I hit the lotto, or made it rich in the book business. Then I could get tatted all over everywhere. For now u can only see em if I show em too u..gotta be professional!
“For now u can only see em if I show em too u..gotta be professional!”
Perfect!!!!!!
“@B: Disinentegrated??? U have cracked me”
No seriously, one set will break down over time but when I was in grad school I neglected everything hair, skin, nails, weight so I had tons of beauty products that I had to dump. The other set of pills apparently still work even though they expired last year.
I will say when I started eating healthier, taking vitmains and using Carol’s Daughter Lisa Hair Elixir I noticed a difference in my hair
@b: carols daughter products are the truth!
I am grateful for the renewed desire to become closer to God.
I am grateful for my beautiful, smart, loving, and all encompassing daughter.
I am grateful for my strength and perserverance.
I am grateful for the love that I know I deserve and that which I have been given.
I am grateful for him, even on the bad days.
I am grateful for the courage and will to go on even in the face of adversity.
I am grateful for ALL of my wonderful and supportive friends both online and offline.
I am grateful for my family, which helps this single mother keep it together.
I am grateful for the God in me.
…Oh and Sheila if you’re on here today, I deleted the blog. It was time.
“will say when I started eating healthier, taking vitmains and using Carol’s Daughter Lisa Hair Elixir I noticed a difference in my hair”
@B: I was gonna start using more Carol’s Daughter stuff when my hair grew out natural (which I failed at so it is now relaxed again. lol).
Gratitude Friday!
I would like to say I am grateful for…
waking up this morning.
people who make me laugh.
being loved.
and last but NOT least my family.
hope everyone has a great weekend!
Tea that was beautiful
Tea-that was great!
@Bgrits
I’m at the gym but what do you use in your hair its gorgeous!
@tea that was beautiful
@ 80’s – cool beans
@ Tea- Great gratitude
@ Chan – WELCOME!!
Thanks ladies!
I’m in the midst of a spiritual fast…I gave up Facebook for 3 days…it was my emotional outlet, so I’m using those moments when I feel like leaving a status message to tell God instead.
Wish me luck, lol…yall know how much I love the book!
Sunny got a perm…now that’s what I’m talkin bout…natural ain’t for errbody(read: us), lol.
Off topic but did y’all see this list? Agree? http://clutchmagonline.com/newsgossipinfo/the-classics-top-50-hip-hop-albums-of-all-time/
@tea: that was a good move. everything isn’t for everybody eyes and ears. U know before facebook and blogs and social networking or the phone all we had was our mouth to gods ears.
and alot more prayers got through (ie: being deloivered from slavery)
plus sometimes i have to think about it, yea I have 700+ friends on facebook how many of those people are actually wishing me well? some maybe plotting or preying for my down fall or actively trying to block the blessings the lord is sending down on us..
i just read steve harvey is gonna be doing a book signing here next week
i should go……
soulja boy is gonna be here tomorrow
hmm……
@80’s,
I meant to ask you since you’re a hairdresser-in-training by way of your aunt (:lol:), what hair would you recommend for a short completely covered weave? I’m getting a bob a la Tasha Mack (Wendy Raquel in The Game)
Anybody else can contribute. Thanks!
awww snap jazmine sullivan is gonna be here on the 31st!!!
hmmm…..
i need a date??
sorry yall im just looking through this detroit events calendar trying to see whats going on my bad
@ LP short completely covered weave .
Completely covered? What does that mean??
awww snap jazmine sullivan is gonna be here on the 31st!!!
hmmm…..
i need a date?? .
You don’t necessarily need a date. You can always go with yourself. My friends thought I was crazy to go by myself to a TI concert (with no ticket). I ended up in the 4th row, and KICKED IT.
@v renee: like a quick weave. like a weave with out any of her actual hair blended in…
@V,
Exactly what Akua said… None of my hair will be showing… Like Tasha Mack’s weave.
right V i feel you, i will totally go by myself robin thicke is going to be at the concert too.
@ LP/Akua – Gotcha. I don’t know about hair, but Ima need to see a pic of this.
@Tea That was so good.
@Nicki Carol’s Daughter is great for relaxed hair.
Now I gotta stop cutting my hair and let it grow.
@Jaci Thanks for the compliment and here is the list of hair stuff.
Relaxer: Used Mizani while in school but now use Designer’s Touch
Haircolor is some expensive Italian ish that my other stylist in VA uses-expensive bastard
but it is great.
Shampoos/Conditioners-JOICO products, Avlon for Color Treated Hair and Ojon.
Ojon Products-especially the which I get off ebay beause it is great but high.-
I will get back to you about my flat iron spray because it is from Italy and I can’t remember the name.
Carol’s Daughter- Hair Milk, Lisa’s Hair Elixir, Healthy Hair Butter, Some of Marguerite’s Magic
Two Stylists: I have figured out that sometimes one stylist can;t be perfect in everything so I go to two. The diva stylist lives in Richmond and I see him every couple of months to get my color and cut(gotta take a bank loan to see him but he is worth it). My homegirl stylist is in my hometown ans she actually listens to what you want.
I don’t use hair grease at all unless I base my scalp for a touchup.
Wash my hair once a week .
I want to go natural but I’m waiting until I get a job because these 2520s are “special” look at you like you Angela Davis. I am going to try and get a job with Carol’s Daughter since I use the products. I’m not too crazy about her shampoo/conditioner though.
@v renee imagine a wig that can’t come off..
Hola again…
Have any of you ever been part of a giving circle? I think I’d like to start one.
I just am trying to figure out full plans for my weekend. I have an assignment to get 5 phone numbers this week and im a lil late so i gotta play catch up lol.
that list of 50 great albums is really on point. Not good, mind you, but great.
Shawnta: “Off topic but did y’all see this list? Agree? http://clutchmagonline.com/newsgossipinfo/the-classics-top-50-hip-hop-albums-of-all-time/”
Actually, that list is pretty good. You’ll never get anyone to agree on a Top 50 hip-hop list, but that is better than most I’ve seen. As soon as I saw the Black Star album on there, I knew the list would be decent.
I’m a little disappointed there wasn’t a DJ Quik album on it though.
@tatica: is that kind of like paying it forward?
@Lovely…. I’m not really for sure on straight hair because it’s been a while since I bought myself some straight hair……. All the weave I buy somewhat consists of curls…
But my sister gets the straight stuff but it’s usually super long but now a days everybody swears by Remy….. It’s more expensive but the texture is really really nice.
brb
I really didnt like carol’s daughter for me and my daughters hair. I have been natural for 5 years, just started the loc’ing process about 4 months ago. I love being natural, I dont have wavy curly hair, its coarse, thick and kinky but I learned to deal with it..best things for me are pure coconut oil, a denman brush and to bring out a little more curl than kink water and old school activator!
@shawnta..
I dont know about that list, especially the order… Illmatic is a classic but under no circumstances should it be number 1…
@hugh
get out of my head…that is the EXACT thing i said
dj quik deserves a lot more credit for what he has done.
“so I’m using those moments when I feel like leaving a status message to tell God instead.”
Amen. Good luck Tea
“Sunny got a perm…now that’s what I’m talkin bout…natural ain’t for errbody(read: us), lol.”
@Tea: Girl hear??? I really didn’t have the patience and I wasn’t able to give up control (I couldn’t do my hair myself!). lol
@Akua – More like it’s a way of pooling money to donate to different charities or causes to make a greater impact. So everyone puts in what they feel they can give and then as a group decide where the money goes.
So it takes some research into how the money is being used, etc but you can feel like your small gift is really helping out.
Whyso: “@hugh
get out of my head…that is the EXACT thing i said
dj quik deserves a lot more credit for what he has done.”
I guess great minds think alike. How DJ Quik never had more noteriety, I’ll never figure out. He was every bit as good as Dr. Dre at the time.
I’m with Shay-D, Shawnta:
I don’t think Illmatic should be #1
Tatica: what’s that?
@Hugh Jazz
Yeah I must admit they did have a number of albums that are missing on other lists.. I would have liked to see UGK and Ball and G make the list..
I knew the list writer had to be from the east though..
@Tatica: This is the first I’ve heard of it.. I like the idea
And they put the Miseducation of Lauren Hill on #43?? Come on man!
@Hugh & @WhySo: Yeah, I agree; there are definitely some other great albums that should be listed.
@Shay & @Nicki: I agree with y’all too; Illmatic is a great album but I would have put Biggie at #1 and I definitely would move Lauryn up on the list as well. I think she’s too far down.
There discussing this on TMCY as well and there’s an explanation given as to why some albums may have been left off.
Meant to say “they’re” discussing this on TMCY as well…craziness.
I would have definitely put Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt higher up.. that album takes me through so many emotions.
@Hugh I liked DJ Quik but I couldn’t get passed the fact that his coiffure looked better than mine..LOL!! His press and curl wuz the bizness!
nicki, shayd
oooohhhh illmatic.
michael eric dyson is writing an entire book about illmatic. A full book. From a 39 minute album.
I’d give illmatic my number 1. It is the reason that I love Hip Hop so much today. Ask people who really really love Hip Hop, and they’ll say it was a big part of that.
@whyso: I must need to go back and listen to Illmatic again. I really was never a huge Nas fan.
@ Shawnta’ – I think the list is pretty good.
@nicki sunshine I really didn’t have the patience and I wasn’t able to give up control (I couldn’t do my hair myself!). lol
I cant do my own hair either..I went to the shop with my natural….a lot of people assume you have to do it yourself.. or they dont want to go to the shop because its natural..its still hair and needs professional attention…especially in my case!
“I cant do my own hair either..I went to the shop with my natural….a lot of people assume you have to do it yourself.. or they dont want to go to the shop because its natural..its still hair and needs professional attention…especially in my case!”
@Shay_D: Girl I was rocking a rod set (pictures on facebook as I tried to document my short journey. lol) which I couldn’t do myself. My little sister did it for me and it took so long to roll.
I hated the fact taht I had to rely on someone else to do it.. I’m a DIY girl. I don’t go to the beauty shop anymore except to the 2520s where I get it cut.
@why so awesomeness
Illmatic is classic sure but its not the number 1 hip hop album under no circumstance. It was Nas number 1 album, maybe number 1 best debut but overall hip hop? naw son.. and nas is overrated….
I hope Michael puts that in his book…LOL
I love hip hop and I loved it before illmatic so maybe thats why its not #1 to me.
But that joint is banging..dont get me wrong
@Whyso: I’m with @Nicki…need to listen to it again. When does this book come out? I’ll have to check it out.
@Hugh I liked DJ Quik but I couldn’t get passed the fact that his coiffure looked better than mine..LOL!! His press and curl wuz the bizness! .
Don’t hate on his “luxiourious” hair. LMAO
nicki:
Illmatic, to me, is pure Hip Hop, and probably the best example of Hip Hop that we’ll have. Dope beats, incredible rhymes and really really uncommercial.
again too, it all depends on your tastes. Because it’s like pure hip hop, if you’re more of an r+b person, then illmatic prolly won’t float you.
I would have also put little brother – the listening on that list.
@nicki sunshine Yes! reasonable doubt and definitely Ms Lauryn should have been higher.. I also think Salt and Peppa and MC Lyte should have made the list …I would have also liked to see the jay z joint life and times volume 3 with hard knock life?
Shawnta: “@Whyso: I’m with @Nicki…need to listen to it again. When does this book come out? I’ll have to check it out.”
It got pushed back from July to December because he has an Obama book coming out in July now.
Bgrits: “@Hugh I liked DJ Quik but I couldn’t get passed the fact that his coiffure looked better than mine..LOL!! His press and curl wuz the bizness!”
He said women hated him for that.
Shawnta: “@Shay & @Nicki: I agree with y’all too; Illmatic is a great album but I would have put Biggie at #1 and I definitely would move Lauryn up on the list as well. I think she’s too far down. “
I think Nas himself can explain why Illmatic is number one on the list:
“My first album had no famous guest appearances,
The outcome: I’m crowned the best lyricist”
Yeah I can agree that its good but I dont see what it did that hadnt been done before..it wasnt that new and different, it was a great album, great beats, great lyrics but for it jump ahead of all the other albums prior to it that had already done that? I cant see it…
“Because it’s like pure hip hop, if you’re more of an r+b person, then illmatic prolly won’t float you.
I would have also put little brother – the listening on that list.”
@whyso: LMAO. Did you just cut me with that statement???? I like pure hip hop but I’m just not feeling him. I don’t see what his big appeal is.. he loses me with his “depth,” here lately.
But I agree. Little Brother needs to be on there. The Listening was thee best album they’ve had so far. I have GetBack and I can’t put that one up there as one of their best.
Why So: “I would have also put little brother – the listening on that list.”
The Minstrel Show is one of my top ten albums of all time. That album was perfect.
” Ms Lauryn should have been higher.. I also think Salt and Peppa and MC Lyte should have made the list …”
I agree. Where are our ladies??? MC Lyte was the business. I loved Georgy Porgy.
My first album had no famous guest appearances,
The outcome: I’m crowned the best lyricist”
thats not why, thats a cop out.. the problem is a lot of hot lyricist dont realize that its about making a complete song.. not just about spitting over a hot beat…Illmatic was dope lyrically but the downfall was that for most people its not a pop in the car and ride type joint…and its real unfinished like….
@nicki sunshine
@whyso: LMAO. Did you just cut me with that statement???? I like pure hip hop but I’m just not feeling him. I don’t see what his big appeal is.. he loses me with his “depth,” here lately.
cause he doesnt have any depth..Nas is seriously overrated Illmatic is good and a great debut but he never got any better than that and it can and has been better..
okay ladies have a great weekend! I gotta go find me some crab cakes and get these nails done!
“cause he doesnt have any depth..Nas is seriously overrated Illmatic is good and a great debut but he never got any better than that and it can and has been better..”
Exactly. I think he thinks he is deep.
Have a great weekend chica
@ Shay- Have a great weekend!
Nas’ voice is extra sexy, so on that alone he can be number 1.
@ nicki….
i’d never cut at you lol. That’s why hip hop lists, and hip hop arguments in general, are pointless. It gets too personal.
What I’ve found out about Hip hop is that it’s less about the actual music, and more about the individual. I think too, music that you chose to invest your time with says a little something about you.
I know as I evolve and learn more about the world, I come to appreciate certain albums more or less.
In the end, whatever makes you happy makes me happy.*
*as long as the song doesn’t have “swagger” in the title.
Comeback has been M.I.A today
“i’d never cut at you lol. That’s why hip hop lists, and hip hop arguments in general, are pointless. It gets too personal. ”
Honey, I know.. I was just messing with you. It’s all love!
“In the end, whatever makes you happy makes me happy.*
*as long as the song doesn’t have “swagger” in the title.”
LMAO.. That word is not allowed anymo’.
Lovely: are u still here?
I haven’t looked at the list because I am no hip-hop head (discovered “real” hip-hop really, really late around 4-5 years ago) but what I am is a music head. I love (and seek) great music. I’ll definitely make an argument for The Minstrel Show of Little Brother to be on a Top 50 list of great hip-hop albums. I know it would make mine.
I have been listening to a lot of Dynospectrum and Elzhi lately… and I am feeling them A LOT.
@Nicki,
Yes dear, I am here.
@LP: Sooo, I was reflecting on your career advice yesterday and then Holister wrote a post on SSSO today about what you would really be doing if you could not fail….
U and her go hand in hand.
But anywho, I have found that what I wouldn’t even be on the path that I’m on now. lol
“Don’t hate on his “luxiourious” hair. LMAO”
@V-Girl we would fighting over flat irons and ish. I always thought he was kind of sexy in-a-I-need-you-to-come-over-around-2am-thorough-the-back-door-and-let-me-tug-on-that-press-and-curl-type-of-thug guy.
“@V-Girl we would fighting over flat irons and ish. I always thought he was kind of sexy in-a-I-need-you-to-come-over-around-2am-thorough-the-back-door-and-let-me-tug-on-that-press-and-curl-type-of-thug guy.”
LMAO.. Ew. I hate men with hair. Kat Williams is only able to do it bc he is short and funny.
Oh Don’t be me started on Real from I love new York. lol
Shay_D_Lady: “thats not why, thats a cop out.. the problem is a lot of hot lyricist dont realize that its about making a complete song.. not just about spitting over a hot beat…Illmatic was dope lyrically but the downfall was that for most people its not a pop in the car and ride type joint…and its real unfinished like….”
Does a “pop in the car and ride joint” make it a the best album? If that is the case, just take the lyrics to one of his albums and have Dre, Premier and Ninth Wonder redo the beats. Instant classic. It has to be much more than just the beat, especially considering most of hip-hop’s best beats are samples.
The main reason Illmatic is considered hip-hop’s best album is because it was a transitional album (as Why So said, it was about the timing). He took the unofficial reigns from Rakim as the best lyricist, but more importantly, it was one of three albums (along with 36 Chambers and Reasonable Doubt) that transitioned hip-hop back to the East Coast. At the time, Death Row had a strangehold on hip-hop because of Dre’s beats. The problem was Snoop was decent as a lyricist and his appeal was his flow, but Dre, Daz and RBX just couldn’t rap.
Enter Illmatic, which had a definite East Coast flavor without the P-funk samples, but also remember at this time that the backpack movement was big with the jazz samples. Nas took lyricism to another level, most MCs just didn’t have his delivery or imagery.
Even when Jay-Z’s classic debut sampled lyrics from Illmatic, that tells you about how transformational the album was.
LMAO.. Ew. I hate men with hair. Kat Williams is only able to do it bc he is short and funny.
Me too. Kat can get away with it but if your last name isn’t Mankiller, He Who Hunts Buffalo, Geronimo, etc…it ain’t happening.
“Me too. Kat can get away with it but if your last name isn’t Mankiller, He Who Hunts Buffalo, Geronimo, etc…it ain’t happening.”
I am wheezing!!!!!
LMAOOOOO.
@Nicki,
But anywho, I have found that what I wouldn’t even be on the path that I’m on now. lol
What about using what you have NOW to propel you to what you want to do next?
A degree is just that if you are not going to use it. I understand wanting to finish what you started. If that’s the case, then find the easiest way to finish possible while focusing on WHAT you want to do. It’s very important. As far as proofreading and stuff, there are a lot of professions that do that. It’s not necessarily for fiction though. But there are.
“He took the unofficial reigns from Rakim as the best lyricist, but more importantly, it was one of three albums (along with 36 Chambers and Reasonable Doubt) that transitioned hip-hop back to the East Coast. At the time, Death Row had a strangehold on hip-hop because of Dre’s beats”
But snap music, Solja Boy, etc. transitioned music back to the South, and we wouldn’t dare call them one of the Top 50???
@ Hugh/Why so – But does the album still deserve to be number 1???
Now that I think about it, why isn’t LIL WAYNE on the list? That’s some bs!
“A degree is just that if you are not going to use it. I understand wanting to finish what you started.
@Lovely: I just looked up English majors and the things I could do with it (Psychology is also on the list). U are right- no use getting a degree in something u don’t want to do. And then I struggle with, but if you get a degree now, u can always go back!
I’m gonna go talk to someone at the school.
“then find the easiest way to finish possible while focusing on WHAT you want to do. It’s very important”
That’s a very good idea. Thanks Lovely!
“Now that I think about it, why isn’t LIL WAYNE on the list? That’s some bs!”
Does anyone remember those mixtapes lil wayne used to do years and years ago, where he’d take someone’s beat and rap over it???? I can’t remember what they were but they were fiyah!
Never mind: Found the mixtapes I was talking about.
http://www.mixtapesusa.com/sq1misquplil.html
Nicki: You the only one here, huh? Talking to yourself and stuff. LOL
@V: I friended you on FB and went to look at your pictures. Why didn’t you warn me you were secksy?
Any Yo-Yo that shows up for the Treehouse convention in Chicago is going to look mad pimpish with all the beauties around.
“Nicki: You the only one here, huh? Talking to yourself and stuff. LOL”
LMAO. They left me in here and it’s so dark. I talk to myself so that I won’t get scared. (it’s a treehouse so I’m sure I will see spiders.)
Being in the treehouse alone…. with me…. in the dark …. can be hazardous to your relationship. LOL
I need to friend people on FB too… I need to see the sexy chicas and chicos!!!!!
“Being in the treehouse alone…. with me…. in the dark …. can be hazardous to your relationship. LOL”
LMAO. U freak!
@offy: See Lovely is in here too. She was just quiet.
I’m sayin’ Lovely, how can I be down w/ your FB crew? LOL btw… I’m there JUL 20-25
Nicki: “But snap music, Solja Boy, etc. transitioned music back to the South, and we wouldn’t dare call them one of the Top 50???”
No, it has to be a good transition. They killed hip hop.
V Renee: “Now that I think about it, why isn’t LIL WAYNE on the list?”
Because he didn’t get good until three years ago. I never heard his albums so I can’t really comment, but he is light years better now (on the songs I’ve heard him on) than he was with the Hot Boys.
Nick I thought I’d share this with you, I’m going to start on it and see how it helps get me focused:
http://givewingstoyourdreams.com/GWTYDLifePlanTemplate.pdf
“No, it has to be a good transition. They killed hip hop.”
LMAO. Didn’t they??? I walked onto the plank yesterday and tried to watch an entire episode of 106 & Park.. I would say 95% of the songs were dance songs, u know where they are shouting orders over a beat:
Did down low, raise your elbow, snap twice, turn in a circle, shake your head, do the booty dew.
I printed that out. Thanks Tatica!
@Off,
I’m sayin’ Lovely, how can I be down w/ your FB crew?
My non-existing FB crew you mean? Lol! I need to up my blog FB persona… Right now, only Jada is my friend…
@Jaci,
Did you see my request?
And I need to be adding miss V. and the rest of the crew!
I am sorry but the south produced Outkast, and Scarface…. and Arrested Development…. and Erykah Badu…
Tell me that ain’t hip hop!!!!
@LP: Yes ma’am.. those u mentioned are most certainly hip hop!!!
@Lovely: I’m finna add you…
I read the Hip-Hop list and it is a good list. The only problem I have is that the left out a few albums.
Have a good weeekend!
@Hugh Jazz
”

You forgot about Ready to Die. That album was also so major in the shift east. I disagree with RBX not being a decent lyricist. Did you listen to his verse on Stranded on Death Row?
@All that can’t appreciate Nas or Illmatic
No knock to you all. But Illmatic is an album for more hardcore fans. I’ve noticed that people that don’t like Illmatic or albums like it prefer music that is more entertaining, jovial, fluffy, and requires less effort to understand.
@Off,
No problem!
@Nicki,
Are you leaving? Is J coming this week-end? Or you driving over there?
@V: I friended you on FB and went to look at your pictures. Why didn’t you warn me you were secksy? .
Ha! You didn’t know??
@ LP – how do I find you on FB?
Humble: “You forgot about Ready to Die. That album was also so major in the shift east.”
Good catch. I meant to say Ready to Die, not Reasonable Doubt. Reasonable Doubt came a couple of years later.
Humble: “I disagree with RBX not being a decent lyricist. Did you listen to his verse on Stranded on Death Row?
He had a couple of decent verses, but overall? But it this way, I couldn’t listen to a whole album of him rapping.
No knock to you all. But Illmatic is an album for more hardcore fans. .
You’re probably right, because I am not a Hip Hop head at all. I know the bare basics.
“I’ve noticed that people that don’t like Illmatic or albums like it prefer music that is more entertaining, jovial, fluffy, and requires less effort to understand.”
THIS IS THE most elitist hip hop comment I’ve ever read.
demeritt to Hummy.
@cbg,
Any art genre has elitists… that’s actually what validates an art form, because it’s often the elitists who call the shots (except in the case of hip-hop)…
