“THe cream sauce was a bootleg version on alfredo sauce. Milk, cream cheese, garlic powder, butter, and pepper heated together. After it’s heated good, slide in cheese (I think I used a blend of mozarella, parmesean and romano) and later the mushrooms. There are variations of it – like using half& half, or a heavy whipping cream. I didn’t have either so I used milk and cream cheese.”

@80s I know how you feel because I have been back in SC since I left Howard back in 1991(don’t care for DC), left 2 years ago for grad school and back again in SC due to the economy.

Maybe you are there for that reason you spoke about. I just know that I gotta be out…..I left for grad school with drama but I didn’t care because I knew I had to leave. Even though sometimes I curse my degree because I’m financially worse off now then before I got it,it was worth going. Now I plan to lay my head in Chicago when my girl moves there so I get this new career started because I’m suffocating here.

It’s been a while since I’ve been on campus during the day but when I was a few years ago I was like wow!! one thing i never understood being in a major industry shift..why some black folks never moved. Like the great migration west and north..some black folks STAYED on farms in the south and never shifted to urban centers or at least to cities near rural areas..for a failing farmer that never made much sense to me. The same thing is happening now…but now its people period. Its a town near WV near a major school that is BEGGING FOR WORKERS…and still people complain in super small town usa about there being no jobs…sometimes you have to WANT IT too.”

As a person who has been through two consecutive layoffs, I think I can speak on this…

1. Just because there are jobs, doesn’t mean that you are qualified for it. You can be over or underqualified and you still won’t get it.

2. Concerning that town in WV, what are the jobs exactly?

3. Many people don’t want to live in certain places no matter what. Stupid, I know but people thank that way.

Personally, I don’t want to live in NYC (cost of living is insane) but if I got a job offer I would figure it out…move to NJ.

4. A lot of people don’t move because they don’t have the money to just pick up and move and investigate opportunities. Plus how many people are going to let you stay with them while you try to get a job? Luckily, I can do that in July when I go to Chicago.

5. Some people can’t move because of family obligations.

6. Some poeple would rather deal with the devil they know then the one they don’t.

And that’s the major reason why if I decide to stay and live in the US, I may never be able to live in the Northeast. How do you justify not having disposable income? I have gotten used to having a LOT of disposable income just by virtue of the low cost of living. I don’t pay a state income tax, apartments/houses are so affordable it’s insane. Food, entertainment, mostly everything is affordable.

I remember when I started working after college, my friends in Cali and the Northeast had way higher salaries than I did… but for some reason, they were always trying to make ends meet. Meanwhile, I could afford to go on vacation/buy clothes I liked/have fun… because my very nice 750sq-ft 1 br in a nice area only costs me $499 a month and I was only taken the federal tax cut off of my paycheck and I could have a great night out buying drinks + food for less than $40.

I have grown accustomed to that. The salary adjustment I will need if I move to say San Fran or New York is just too ridiculous to even consider.

I agree! It’s not even “overqualification” per se. I will not fixate on my “overqualification” but more so what am I getting out of this job I feel so overly qualified for. Nobody knows everything and there is ALWAYS something to learn. Especially soft skills. I think people are often reluctant to adapt.

I will mold myself in anything I need to be, so I can care about mine. I will sweep floors (and create a cleaning business!) before I die of hunger.

Most definitely… I learned in my media english class how things are sensationalized in the media which causes everyone to be in an uproar, thus helping ratings.

Hummy I will always heart detroit even if its “rough” people who aren’t from detroit really don’t get the feel of “love” but there is some most def.

everytime I go home i feel like an out of towner and people are just great, there is not a day I just go back and be like ugh i hate this city.

I do plan to venture out but I agree it takes a special person to appreciate what was, is, and to come.

Okay I was just about to ask why you’re considering moving. I figured it had something to do with the job industry b/c you seem to love Detroit.

I like big cities but in doses. Like I like living in this small town of mine cause it’s intimate however I crave excitement. So I love that Raleigh/Durham is a short drive away. I can hit the city and have fun, then get back to my cozy lil place when I’m ready to relax and chill.

I dragged my feet with this MBA and I just started last Fall… Now I am over here feeling fed up most of the time.
This semester I’m taking a Statistics class, a Finance class, and Information Systems class.
