Gratitude Friday: Do You Love What You Feel?

Comeback Lovers, Friends and People “watching” from the ether (I see you). LOL

On this Gratitude Friday, Comeback Girl is super happy but also super exhausted right now, but I’mma push through this post because I love this blog (wink wink).

Jolie mentioned something so poignant yesterday and I thought I’d really underscore it on Gratitude Friday. So poignant, there’s a Chaka Khan song for it: “Do You Love What You Feel?” (follow me..Im going to walk yall all the way around the barn and back).

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yg1OSK1nXDc]

Jolie wrote:

God is great and he always has a plan and it works in his time. Four years ago when Bush was reelected there were many wondering, “how could this be.” Often, in the time of struggle, we forgot how great God is. If Bush wasn’t the President for 8 years, we would not have seen this day. We might not always like the plan or be able to see what’s ahead. It might take us years to see why God did what he did, but if we hold on.

In my reply to her, I honestly believe that God/Source/Allah whatever you call him/her wants what you want. I also believe that it doesn’t take forever for dreams to come true (see Barack Obama). However, your real gift is ALWAYS in the process not just in its destination. This got me thinking about George the 43rd. He Condi and Cheney put this country in a terrible bind. I know you all are sick and tired of me bringing up “W” the movie. But it really help put alot of things in perspective for me. It connected many “dots” that I had heard before in different places and even partly from the horses mouth. And that is George the 43rd didn’t really “LOVE what he “feel’d”". When you love what you do, you do it well. You’d do it for free. It keeps you up. It energizes you. You don’t sign out at 4:30pm on the dot EVERDAY (reportedly Bush’s checking out time, I believe). You take work home. Ideas home. People buy your koolaid because they sense the love. My grandma used to always say. Anybody can half-a!s, if you aren’t going to do it right don’t do it at all. I’d add to granny’s saying, “if you aren’t going to do it with a certain amount of love and reverence, don’t do it at all.” Sure every part of your work isn’t going to bring you joy. There may be very little to no joy in sharpening a pencil. But if a portion of your life isn’t joy filled…please stay home and try and find it. It’s not even worth it. I can read joy in people’s work. In their products. In their books. In their food. In their lives.

Being President, wasn’t “W’s” dream. It was his daddy’s hope for Jeb. I honestly believe the lesson is you must LOVE what you do. You must LOVE what you feel. Anything less suggests you aren’t in your flow or your passion. And of course you get out what you put in. Voila, a country and a world in a complete shambles needing a little love and direction. A product of a vision belonging to someone else FOR SOMEONE ELSE.

Comeback Lovelies. What do you love about what you feel? as it relates to your work or the work you feel you were sent here to do. Do you know what you were sent here to do?

    AMEN Comeback.

I love my career as a writer. I get to meet so many interesting people. Yes, there are things about it that I don’t like and some times I’m like–forget it, I’m going back to a regular 9 to 5, but someway or somehow God directs my path right back to writing. When I was an engineer, I liked what I was doing at the time; however there was something missing. In the back of my mind, I had always wanted to be a writer. God knows me. I can get complacent sometimes (especially when my check was good) so He shook up my world, where I had no choice but to step out on faith and write. Thank God I did. No I couldn’t see why things were happening the way that they were, but as Jolie said, “God is great and he always has a plan and it works in his time.”

I forgot to answer your last question–Writing is one of my gifts. Counseling is another one of my gifts that I tried to run from, but now I fully embrace. God gives me insight to things and it amazes me sometimes because I’m like–where did those words come from.

Hey guys fab post, Its super important to do what you love and not what someone else THINKS you should be doing. I was always told that when you do what you love, they money will flow that is a very true statement. Sometimes however doing what you love can require you to step out of your comfort zone which most people like Shelia said aren’t willing to do that.

I believe in taking risk but I also believe that you can be prepared to take risk, if you plan, write goals down, tell everyone your vision. A lotta times when people feel and see your passion they go out of their way to help you live out your dreams.

Fantastic post. Things I love to do: read, talk to people, and listen to music. I’ve yet to wrap them up into my dream job yet. ;)

I believe counseling is one of my gifts…. I forever have someone “laying on my couch.” I think I give good advice and no one gets favoritism.. I will tell youwhen you are dead wrong! Although I’m not there yet, in the meantime, I’m working a JOB while I get my degree in psychology soI can practice like a true professional!

Oh, I fought with admitting this is what I should do many times… psychology is not exactly favored in some churches, namingly my old church. My preacher would preach about people needing to go to the LAWD for help…. while yes, that is true, another assist is having a GODly person helping you out right here on earth.

    Good morning ladies!!!! Great Post!!!!

I can admit that at the age of 26 I do not know what I was sent here to do. And unfortunately I can admit that this career that I have is not my passion. I knew IT wasn’t right for me after my internship in undergrad. But it was the summer of my junior year so I stuck it out. I was then fortunate enough to receive a 2 year intership (great upward mobility position) within federal gov’t. I was thinking I can sacrifice 2 years to find out if this is what I really want to do… Unfortunately 2 has turned into 4. I can admit it’s nobody else’s fault but my own because I got comfortable. I allowed myself to get settled. But as a result of that now I am pretty much at the end of my rope and I hate that I don’t do too much to hide it. I still perform and make sure I’m accountable for my responsibilities but are they performed at the best of my abilities. I can honestly admit no!!!!!

Again I know that this isn’t nobody else’s fault but mine… But I’m gonna get it together and really get serious about a vision and start making things happen for myself :) .

    Good one, lady.

I have to say I do love what I feel when I do what I do. My life is at a stage right now where I can be totally dedicated without feeling bad about doing certain things for too long or not long enough….

I think it’s just the way life goes…and like 80s I am working on getting that list right and doing what I need to do :)

Thanks Comeback! awww ;) By the way, I’m lovin this nickname Sunny… it reminds me of the 70s (considering I’m an 80s baby, I need to figure out why I love the 70s so much. LOL)

@80s: the great thing is, you’re still young so it’s ok… there’s nothing wrong with finding out your passion later in life, as long as you find it.

To piggyback off of Comeback posts these are some bible study notes that I’ve recieved in the past that can compare:

    Determined to Persevere

Whatever God calls us to do we should have a burning for it but we shouldn’t let it burn us out. When there is disorder in your personal life it messes up your public life. Meaning the public can see when you’re burnt out as a result of your job, friends, family, and etc. However, we must remember that even though our outward man is worn down, our inward man is renewed day by day. So even though we’re worn out we shouldn’t let it show because even though it seems dark throughout this particular time in our lives, our source of power comes from another place.

***My focus now is making sure my inward man is renewed day by day because I need to clear out all of the other stuff so that I can actually receive what God wants me to do….And right now I just want to encourage yall to make sure yall stay on top of yall stuff because allowing yourself to become settled is not the business. So stay reaching for more :) **********

praise be to Jesus I needed to read those words!!

comeback I think my passion is in helping people learn to become financially educated you know I don’t have it down pact yet but im working on not beating people with a stick about it and just letting the information flow, and allowing people to take the parts of it they need in order to apply it to there own lives.

Did you guys there was actual spirtual gifts that GOD gave us? There’s about ten of them (I think) and they name them in a scripture. I forget the scripture, all my notes are at home.

    on a side note,

my co-worker is engaged to be married after 3 months of dating this girlfriend of his, I don’t have the full scoop but word on the streets is we are all invited to the wedding in July of 09.

What say you guys? do any of you think you can fall in love with someone in that short amount of time.

he is a 26 year old white guy (not sure if that means anything) but why aren’t our men willing to make those types of commitments????

THIS IS GOSPEL..you should have written this post 80s. I should have added that your “work” flows so well that other things in your life naturally work. Like the mojo trancends. I really believe thats when you know your stuff is ON FIRE. Meaningful work translates into meaningful relationships etc…not always just romantic love..tho once you’ve hit all those balls out the park you are really doin something.@ Shirley/Mik “comeback I think my passion is in helping people learn to become financially educated”..I agree with this. Good Morning Ladies!! At 28, I think I am just now somewhat figuring out my purpose in life!! I am in a career that I absolutely love and am fascinated by! It’s funny because when I was younger I thought being a Child Psychologist was my calling that is until I graduated started working with a non-profit organization and saw that it wasn’t for me…. Somehow the job I have now just fell into my lap… literally. Outta frustration with the job I had with the non-profit I signed up with a temp agency to get something that I could do in the meantime until I figured out what I wanted to do! Imagine being 24 stressed out, upset, and disheartened!! Well the temp agency sent me to the company that I now work for, but I wasn’t suppose to be here… they had sent the WRONG person!! Luckily enough the CEO and COO loved me and decided to keep me!! Now I am a mid-level manager, loving the financial services industry, and going back for my MBA next fall!!!

*** Sorry my posts keeping being super long ;) ***

And see I had recieved that bible study message back in April of 2007 and I was into it then. But it didn’t click the way it’s clicking today because at that time I didn’t realize that I was getting in that settling mode. But now everything makes perfect sense especially “When there is disorder in your personal life it messes up your public life.” Because I can honestly say that I have taken out the frustration with my current situation sometimes on my family and I know that’s not fair to them.

So thank you comeback for writing this post because it made me dig out this powerful words that are relevant to my current situation.

Furthermore, these were more notes from that day:

    Destiny is Being Prepared

If God allowed it, it’s got to bless me! When you are going through a manifestation, it’s just for a moment because this is developing your destiny. If you can endure the season you qualify for the reward. The weight in your story determines the weight of your glory. No story, no glory! Everything you had to go through was necessary. You would not be going through trials and tribulation if you weren’t close to your blessing.

**So now I need to make sure I make the necessary changes to make sure I’m enduring this season in the proper way. I need to take some responsibility and stop snapping on folks (when they don’t deserve it) because even though it seems dark right now, I know MY SOURCE OF POWER COMES FROM ANOTHER PLACE.

Please excuse my long posts but reading/writing these words again just comforted me and I just got reassured that my blessing is on the way.

I, personally, have known for a long time that there is no “work” in the traditional sense that would fulfill me. I’ve never had an interest in corporate America, climbing ladders, or any of the jobs that “help” people like doctors, teachers, etc.
Whenever I think about what I’m here for, family and children always pop into my mind. My ideas might seem archaic, because I am very traditional. I want to be a stay at home mom, a wife, the caretaker and nurturer of my family.
Now, of course, I can be a wife and mother and still have a 9-5, and if my financial situation causes me to do that, then of course, anything for my family.
But, besides that, (and here’s where we get to what I feel my purpose might be), I want to adopt and foster children. My grandmother adopted, and she was an unfit parent to her own children, and had no business adopting. There are so many people like her that are abusive in all its forms, that will adopt innocent children and release hell on them. I’ve always wanted to provide a safe, nurturing, loving home for children that I didn’t give birth to. That’s why I love the Jolie-Pitt family so much and Mother Hale is such an inspiration.

I think this is one of the best loves to have. There were times when i wished my mother wanted a little more than to be a mother. I think thats still how she defines herself today, with a grown child. But she honestly was and is a great one…great parents (foster or otherwise) send great kids into the world.

    Hello ALL!!!

Ok, so I’m over here chair dancing b/c getting up would require me to stop typing through this spirit of happiness.

Life is good…I found out this morning that I beat out someone much more qualified for the position, but my boss and the interview panel saw the love and dedication I have for helping troubled teens and that trumped the experience of someone who only wants to collect a check any day.

Did I mention life was good…I’m dating a guy(locally…yaaay), a guy who respects my mind and body and is happy to wait on sex, doesn’t even want to talk about it. His quote, “There is nothing in the world that I want more than to wax that @ss Teacia, but I respect you and we can do this your way.” I couldn’t help but laugh at his candor, and the sincerity in his voice. He even made plans to celebrate my success, he’s super supportive of my dreams and although it’s only been a month, things couldn’t be going better. And don’t worry I’m not in love…yet…oh and I’m still multitasking that @ss, fo real!!

Have I said that life was good, I got new bedroom furniture and my daughter and I are FINALLY fully moving back into my place…no more sleepovers at my mother’s…and no more interrupted nights of sleep.

    God is good…all the time.

    November 7, 2008 | 10:35 am

I’ve never had a job that I liked. I didnt pursue any of the career fields that I liked because they are traditionally lower-paying jobs. I ended up in engineering (which I hate) and IT (which is OK, but doesnt excite me). I used to place an extreme importance on money, some people around me called it unhealthy. Alot of that is due to my parents, who think if you dont have a degree and a good job then you have failed at life. I was pressured to go to engineering because I kicked @ss on the math/science part of the SAT, and even though I loved drawing and had an intrest in starting my own business, all my folks would say is “Artists dont get paid” and “most businesses fail”. I was young and I listened to them and I regret it a lot.

Now I am mature and confident in myself, and I am ready to pursue something that I love. I am actually happy that I got laid off. PGF is happy too, she said she already noticed a difference in my attitude, she said while I was working when she came home she got used to expecting to see me with alcohol, the Xbox controller, and a balled-up face trying to unwind from the stress and my general unhappiness with my job. So I am enjoying this time off and researching the fields that I plan to pursue.

I will be in DC for 11 whole days, I will have tickets to the Inauguration, and I will get to visit the Capitol and the White House and watch the change of power as it takes place right before my eyes.

Thanks Holly girl, I don’t want to say just wait on love b/c you have an equal responsibility to make it happen, just don’t force and let it consume your thoughts, i’m sure you’ll be fine.

Comeback: “the best kind of guy to have. I see errybody’s @zz is getting boo’d up..let me revisit my roster. lol”

…girl it’s getting cold down here in the D(duval county) so a man is a mandatory accessory these days.

I see everybody is extra in the spirit this morning.

I have to say I am super-excited about everything in my life. I do my job well and I love it, but I am outgrowing it…it’s like here and I’m here SO I am looking for new ones. I am thinking so positive I know something is coming.

I have a “new” man in my life and I am ecstatic to have him…he is truly everything I’ve ever wanted. Seriously, my best friend, my world…but I got to still keep that list. I am going to comment on err’thing that’s been said in here when I get back with my coffee and can focus hard core.

And I leave you with this…(for those who believe)

If God be for us, then who can be against us?

“having a GODly person helping you out right here on earth.”

Exactly Nicki. You’ll be able to touch people’s lives in so many ways–that’s the path God has for you.

Comeback – that “third eye” you have is a gift. You bring a new insight to things.

Preach 80’s Baby–Have to renew, stay refueled and reach for the top.

“do any of you think you can fall in love with someone in that short amount of time.”

Mikki, love can be at first sight; however in that first phase of love, there’s a mixture of lust in there and couples should wait until the dust or lust settles to see if they really do “love” the person. Some folks are in love with the idea of being in love so it don’t take much. Since they aren’t getting married until 2009, there’s enough time for them to figure out if this is really love or not.

Yeah uhhhh about those past relationship issues, lol…I think he’s ready, but he’s real bad about his choices. He LOVES dark skinned women though…but that’s because he’s as light as Casper.

He’s the settling down type, but he likes to be in your presence 365 so he needs something a bit more local. I’m telling you once you break through the pretentious garbal he’s good.

@ Nick… Right this adulthood weight is getting on my last nerve!!!!!! I hit 25 and Bam! Adulthood weight smacked me in the face, the arms, the boobs, the legs, the hips, and the booty!!!!! In the last few years I’ve gained almost 30 lbs. Luckily I was like 110 before the weight came…. But I just don’t want to keep adding. Now I need to seek revenge on this adulthood weight so I can say nanny nanny boo boo.. U thought you had me… ;)

    Comeback … Thank You

I still disagree with you on a lot of stuff, but this week I tried to take a much more active approach at just enjoying life and being happy … which is loosely based on what you say day in and day out … and damned if I’m not happy now. Sure things like a Black President helped, but I realized I was falling into that victim sounding trap just a lil, so I stopped.

Anyways, we can go back to hating each other tomorrow, but wanted to let ya kno cause I’m in a really really good mood.

    I’m out … at a conference.

    Hmmm…. contemplating this Special K thing too….

Yeah adulthood weight does suck I too weighed about 110-115 and have gained 30 lbs! I was so pissed a couple weeks ago I went into Victoria Secrets trying to get some cutesy sleep wear and I couldn’t fit anything… she had to measure me and I was no longer the 36C I thought I was…. It was a sad day in Hollyland… now all that type of stuff has to be ordered… :-(

@SBM…. Awwww, That was so sweet. ;)

@” say nanny nanny boo boo.. U thought you had me… ”

LMAO. Girl, hear?? Well, I appreciate my adult weight b/c I used to be a STICK! No kidding! LOL. But I need to get it in order b/f it gets too far… the way that I love sugar is ridiculous. But I’ve weined off…

for some reason, all those breakouts I was having on my face have been clearing up. THANK YOU JESUS. I wonder if my diet had anything to do with it.

@Holly: The Special K is actually not that bad.. I’m eating the Cinnamon Pecan and Vanilla Almond flavors and they’ve been good… you just eat it for breakfast and lunch and eat a regular dinner… and I used 1% milk (even though they say SKIM). I can’t do that. LOL

@ Holly…. I heart you. You feel my pain in more ways than one. Girl, @ Vicky’s during the semi annual sale if I want a bra on sale I have to be there first thing in the morning on the first day otherwise it’s a wrap…. Let me just say that I’m searching for the DD’s and depending on the style those might not even work…. :(

So she go gets this 60.00 bra that’s been seen on Oprah and it was a DD… Only thing was it didn’t fit…. I was like so you tellin’ me I’m a triple….I wanted to cry :( ……. And then to make matters worst one of my best friends was over my house and I had bra folded over laying on my bed facing upwards and she walked in like what’s that a hat.. I could have smacked her…. Yeah, I have always been heavy chested and it has always bothered me! The Dolly Parton jokes were the worst.

@ Nick…. Actually I have…. My aunt had 2 of them. I’ve realized that one of the places where i gain weight is in the boobage area so what about in the future when I’m eventually married and working on kids… I don’t just want to gain the weight right back in the boobs after a reduction. Cuz the procedure would have been pointless But it is definitely on my eventually to do list!!!! But now I just deal with them and try to draw at least attention to them as possible

So what yall think about Michelle’s momma going to the White House with them….. Well it hasn’t been confirmed that she’s actually moving in the White House but she’s going to DC too…I love it :)

This is her from a interview she did a while back”If somebody’s going to be with these kids other than their parents,” she said, “it better be me.”

Of course we have the racists folks saying next he’s going to have the cousins and stuff movin in next…… But I personally don’t see anything wrong this. This is about to be a big transition and the girls need some kind of normalcy around them.

  158. jac427
    November 7, 2008 | 3:20 pm

80s-I think you’re right. These girls have never even switched residences, let alone another city with their father as the President. I say Grandma is a welcome and needed addition to the family!

@80s yeah i agree with Jac. I don;t understand that concept. Michelle is going to need help. Family values mean you call your mama before you call a nanny. in my opinion.

Dems are really gonna show the Repubs about family values for real.

I’m still just so happy and Barack is already shutting it down :) . You know people were mad that he went to a parent teacher conference this morning saying he has more important things to do…. But everybody was takin up for him saying he is leading by example showing the importance of being active in your child’s education!!!! Furthermore, their commenting saying that he understands the importance of his role as being a father and how that comes before him being President….. So I agree that he’s going to show the Repubs about real family values.

Go head President-Elect Barack Obama!!! I just love the way that sounds… :)

  163. Anitra
    November 7, 2008 | 3:42 pm

go head for going to the parent teacher conference, he also said in his press conference that he is NOT the president YET, basically sayin yall better stop askin me to fix ish i have no authority over.

This will be the first time i actually wanna listen to a president speak lol

These are the racists stereotypical comments that i was referring to earlier…… Man it’s sad because we have come so far but yet we still have so far to go. They have definitely pinched a nerve!!!! ~ Jerks!

“I understand that Michelle’s mother is moving into the White House with them. I wonder how long it will be, before the brothers and aunts and uncles move in, I mean it’s not like they won’t have the room. This is really a joke. What a fisrt family

The White House is for the First Family to live in, not every relative in their family. Before we know it the cousins will be coming in.”

    first time here.

I loved this post for more reasons than I am going to go into here, (you have tons of comments to read already), but I do want to say this.

I don’t love my job, but I do LIKE it and it made all the difference in the world because I came from a job I fought to get (believing in upward mobility) and HATED.

How you feel about what you invest yourself in, definitely affects your success and output.

By the way you are very beautiful.
