Feng Shui: Junk In The Trunk (a)

Comeback Lovelies, during this Feng Shui series Im going to speak very candidly (as I always do).

But Im going to share some rather personal things about me. Some of which you could have already guessed. Others, may surprise you. I want to start at the beginning of feng shui. In my opinion, you gotta get rid of the clutter. The messy stuff in your face. And the things I am guilty of: stuffing it away.

So with that said I present to you one of my more messy spaces, a drawer:

I do pride myself on being orderly at least where people can see. In fact its one of the core components of feng shui. With a clean and orderly house and work space, I feel like I could run and win against McCain. Like I could make all nations come to indefinite peace agreements. I could find a cure for allergies, A.D.D. and over all boredom. I even have people to help me every other week to keep my space nice and neat. But I have a tendency to stuff stuff. Its hard for me to throw things away. The box in which my $230.00 moisturizer came in. I never paid $200 bucks for moisturizer before, saving the box cements how insane that purchase was, (but its become my morning routine, my fountain of youth), creative projects that no longer inspire me, batteries, Ella Fitzgerald stamps, sunglasses, earrings, usb flash drives, a lint brush, a box of tea, my passport, a blank check, $8.34, books about Jane Austen and eating live foods.

“Clutter has ramifications beyond impeding your progress in your physical space. It also affects your emotional, mental, and energetic health. If your space is cluttered, you may feel inundated with unrelated emotional issues…Energetically, clutter pulls the vibrant energy of the environment down and instigates a heavy sigh of exhaustion. When your inside and outside worlds are cluttered simultaneously, you will find it nearly impossible to envision actualizing your dreams. Enormous amounts of healthy, creative energy will pour into your life as you take the reins and become the master of your domain. (“Feng Shu’ Your Life, Jayme Barrett)

This is one of the hardest things for me to tackle. When most people come into my living space they don’t see my drawers, closets, and desks. the clutter issue that I need to address is referred to as common clutter. Things that are unused, unloved, unnecessary and messy. Other clutter in people’s spaces are also symbolic clutter: unsuccessful projects, gloomy artwork, and disheartening books. Energy clutter is another, clutter attached by an invisible cord: pictures of old lovers, gifts from past relationships, inherited furniture you’ve kept out of guilt. These types of clutter are highlighted specifically in Barrett’s book.

good job on the organization. BUT I know your earring belong with the rest of your jewelry so kindly remove them to the jewelry box! :) Oh and the glass to where you keep the rest of your sunglasses!

you sonund like my mama. nothing really has a “place” persay. As long as its in order. I have perfume in the kitchen LOL next to the oatmeal. Nothing wrong with that. feng shui (my personal feng shui) does not dictate place. Its that it must be orderly.

besides those are my…let me grab some coffee real quick earrings.

    LOL

Comeback this is a good series. I am an ex-hoarder. I like to keep everything. I was a neat hoarder though because the stuff would be in drawers or in my closets. I knew I had to get a handle of it when I needed some important papers and couldn’t find them. I got rid of years worth of things–either shredded or donated. I think I was trying to hold on to the past. Once I got rid of the stuff, I was able to let go of somethings in the past.

If my desk is junkie, I can not work. I have to clean my desk up before I can sit down and check email or anything.

For those trying to organize your closet, I would suggest slim-line hangers. At first when I bought them from Bed, Bath & Beyond (best price), I couldn’t see how they would make me have more closet space. I mean, it’s just a hanger. I can confirm that it does give you more space. I chose the black velvet color but they come in various colors.

Shelia me too. I found an ex’s pic a few weeks ago and I kept wondering why people were asking about him STILL. I found EVERYTHING he owned, including pics, teeshirts hidden in the garage and trashed it. Its cathartic. I dont really think you can bring other people and even ideas in without REALLY REALLY purging the old.

I am de-cluttering today. Thanks for the motivation! Also, I am also a La Mer lover! The gel de la mer and hydrating infusion are staples in my morning & evening routine.
